The aims of the WATS scheme is to improve access to post-compulsory education for young people from ethnic minority communities in Leicestershire through innovative use of sport-education activity programmes as pathways to Further Education and Higher Education opportunities. The Loughborough project primarily works with young people from the Hastings and Lemyngton wards. The project also strives to provide an increased understanding and evidence of good practise that can contribute to the regions future strategies to combat educational disadvantage among ethnic minority populations. The project is co-ordinated through Loughborough University. The project also focuses on cohesion activities and provides community workshops and activities.
The WATS scheme has also created opportunities for young people living across Leicestershire in various initiatives including open days and a recent football camp.
