Sports-Link providing funding for 2 junior football kits to be taken to the Mandiana School in Gambia. Leicestershire County Council Youth Service have developed strop links to the school in Gambia and presented the new kit to the young Gambians on a recent visit.
Sports-Link and Leicestershire County Council have worked in partnership to give 15 young people from Charnwood the chance to visit Wembley Stadium on Sunday 16 March 2008. More information will follow.
The Global All-Stars will begin a series of monthly football matches against Loughborough University students from Sunday 2 March. The partnership between the university and the Global All-Stars will ensure cohesion and the importance of cultural diversity is celebrated across Charnwood.
Through a successful partnership between Sports-Link, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport Partnership and the national charity Street Games a number of fantastic street and community based opportunities have become accessible across Charnwood. To celebrate the effective partnership of the concept of street games locally a football tournament was held in October 2007 at Loughborough Leisure Centre and a mini-league has been running at Cobden MUGA. Sports-Link in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, Street Games and Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport Partnership has recently been successful in obtaining £40,000 in funding from Sport England East Midlands Community Investment Fund. The funding will contribute to a larger funding bid totalling £122,000 (other funding not yet confirmed) for the Sport 4 Life project.
