Kit for Gambia

Sports-Link providing funding for 2 junior football kits to be taken to the Mandiana School in Gambia. Leicestershire County Council Youth Service have developed strop links to the school in Gambia and presented the new kit to the young Gambians on a recent visit.

Sports-Link and Leicestershire County Council have worked in partnership to give 15 young people from Charnwood the chance to visit Wembley Stadium on Sunday 16 March 2008. More information will follow.

All-Stars and University Unite

The Global All-Stars will begin a series of monthly football matches against Loughborough University students from Sunday 2 March. The partnership between the university and the Global All-Stars will ensure cohesion and the importance of cultural diversity is celebrated across Charnwood.

What is Sports-Link?

In 2003 Charnwood Arts received funding from Sport England (Active Communities Development Fund) to employ a a sport-link project officer to work across Charnwood providing sport and recreational opportunities to young people and their families focussing on Community Cohesion issues over a 5-year period. The Sports-link project is a partnership between Charnwood Arts, Sport England, Charnwood Borough Council, Leicestershire Constabulary, Charnwood Council for Voluntary Service, and Charnwood Racial Equality Council. The partnership arose as a result of effective local partnerships through the Connecting Communities projects seeking to explore and develop improved networking and community relations in Charnwood.

Meet the Sports-Link Project Officer

Cath Morton has now been in the Sports-Link post since 18 August 2003. Cath is currently working across Charnwood engaging with organisations, facilitators, and local residents seeking to develop opportunities for people living across Charnwood.
